Veterinary Acupuncture
Northwest Georgia Veterinary Emergency Center offers veterinary acupuncture services provided by Dr. Savannah Landrum.
Acupuncture is a gentle, minimally invasive treatment that can help manage pain, support healing, and improve quality of life. It is especially helpful for pets dealing with chronic conditions, mobility issues, or recovery from injury.
Pets may be referred by their primary care veterinarian or by our emergency and medical team.
Conditions That May Benefit
Acupuncture is most commonly used for:
- Arthritis and chronic joint pain
- Mobility issues in senior pets
- Neurologic conditions such as Intervertebral Disc Disease, Fibrocartilaginous Embolism, and spinal injuries
- Orthopedic injuries and soft tissue trauma
- Post-surgical or injury recovery
- Anxiety and comfort support
- Cancer-related pain and supportive care
Geriatric pets with arthritis and stiffness often see meaningful improvements in comfort and mobility.
In Emergency and Recovery Cases
Acupuncture may be recommended as part of a recovery plan for conditions such as:
- Intervertebral Disc Disease
- Cranial Cruciate Ligament injuries
- Soft tissue injuries
- Certain fractures
It can help support pain relief, circulation, and overall recovery alongside traditional veterinary care.
What to Expect
While every pet responds differently, many owners notice:
- Improved comfort and reduced pain
- Better mobility
- Increased activity and engagement
- Improved overall quality of life
Most pets tolerate treatment well. For more sensitive or aggressive patients, alternative approaches such as aquapuncture with sedation may be considered.
Acupuncture is not appropriate for critically unstable patients, such as those in shock or requiring emergency transfusions.
